Brought to you by Barley Gardening Club, sell or purchase plants and produce from your home at the Walkabout Plant Fair.
Gardeners’ World is back on the box and there are dazzling daffs, beautiful blackthorn and cheerful cherry plum blooming all over the village: it’s time to get back out in the garden, if you haven’t already. And while we still aren’t quite sure when and where the roadmap out of you-know-what will take us, we can be sure that a bit of garden rejuvenation will help us get there.
With that in mind, the Barley Gardening Club is organising a walkabout plant fair for Sunday 9 May from 11am- 2pm, and we are hoping that our green-fingered membership will be keen to help out. We are looking for people to gather up their spare plants, pots, posies, peasticks, (garden) paraphernalia and produce and run a stall from their front door/driveway. It’s the perfect way to share the spare spring divisions of those stalwart perennials and sell on those seedlings and cuttings that, realistically, you just don’t actually have space for! Or maybe those botany books and gardening guides you no longer need (because you know it all, obviously!) could find a new home?
If you would like to take part and run a stall, please contact Juliet Day at Churchfield by email preferably (julietday35@gmail.com or 07738 469171) to say you would like to take part and we will get you on the walkabout plant fair map we will produce to guide people around the village to the various stalls. If you have any particular horticultural specialities be sure to let Juliet know. If you are not sure you have enough to run a stall but do have some plants to spare, you could also donate them to Juliet who will be running her stall from the top of Pudding Lane. She will be making a donation from any proceeds to Perennial, the gardening charity that helps professional horticulturists through hard times.
Mel Chammings will be running refreshments from outside the Town House and if you could help Mel, please be in touch with her at Mel.chammings@gmail.com or 07713847086. Proceeds to Barley Flower Show to help make it a special event next year
And if you have any other ideas for the walkabout plant fair, please do not hesitate to be in touch with either Juliet or Mel.
As the inimitable Audrey Hepburn said: ‘to plant a garden, is to believe in the future’. So put 9 May in the diary, get gardening and do be in touch.
