Volunteers: Scouting is run by volunteers, and we’re always happy to hear from adults who’d like to help - whether that’s as a leader, helper, occasional supporter, or behind the scenes. You don’t need prior Scouting experience - just enthusiasm and a willingness to help young people have fun. If you are interested in volunteering please contact us using the form in the link below.

Cubs take part in a wide range of activities that encourage independence and teamwork, from crafts and camping to acting and abseiling - while having loads of fun along the way.

Explorers build on the skills they’ve gained in Scouts while enjoying greater independence and choice, taking on high?'adventure activities, advanced outdoor skills, leadership opportunities, volunteering through the Young Leader scheme, and taking part in district and county events. Explorers work together to plan parts of their own programme, developing confidence, teamwork and real?'world skills in a welcoming and social unit.

Our heritage and an exciting future

The “Barkway” part of our name comes from the group’s origins in the Reading Rooms at Barkway, where we first began with a single Cub Pack. As the group grew, we raised the funds to build our own headquarters in Barley.

Our current Scout Hut has served generations of young people well, and we are now developing plans and fundraising towards a new, modern Scout Hut on the same site, ensuring we can continue to offer safe, welcoming and exciting Scouting opportunities for many years to come.

Please contact us using one of the links above if you’d like further information on these plans.
