Tennis

The site on which to make your on-line bookings is at the following address (this is available to members only who will need their 'user-name' and password to gain access):-

www.barleytennisclub.co.uk

I will be creating a more full description of the courts, their history, how to become a member and everything else but, at this stage, please accept this rather scruffy page; it's the best I can do within the time available!

We now have a facility of two tennis courts to be used throughout day light hours in the centre of Barley (The Plaistow!).

An Application form for membership is at the bottom of this page!!!

You do NOT have to be a member of the club to play but membership will bring advantages:-

bulletWhen we have the systems in place, members will be able to pre-book a court a few days in advance (probably, up to 2 weeks).
bulletMembers will have their own key to the courts whereas, non-members will need to arrange via the 'club' to get hold of a key for a single use.
bulletMembers can play their games/matches for no extra charge whereas there will be a charge per game/hour for non-members. The charge will be £3 per hour for non-members for 2007.
bulletMembers will be able to play in 'club' games and may be selected to play against other clubs if they wish.
bulletMembers will be kept up to date with plans, changes and news via Email
bulletMembers can control who is running the clubs and thus the courts by the usual club/society/association rules
bulletMembers will be able to benefit from any discounts negotiated by the club for sports items from local suppliers.

As stated, everything is NOT yet fully in place and there WILL be errors and omissions at the moment. For example, we hope to be able to offer 'On-Line' booking of courts to members. At present, we are working on the software but it will take a little time to complete. We COULD have a physical 'book' in which you could pre-book your courts but, at the moment, where would we put it, how would we keep it dry, how do we keep it safe from vandalism, how do you get access to it, etc., etc.? So please forgive us for the time being.

We have a Club Committee but I do not have all the email addresses of the committee at this moment. For that I apologise but I can give you details of two of the members at the moment should you need more details.

A Family (one household) subscription is £35 per year and that runs for 365 days from the date of your payment so you can join at any stage during the year with no disadvantages

Once again, may I apologise for the amateurish nature of this page but it's the best I can do in the time available.

Call My Wine Bluff

Saturday 7th July 2007

Town House Barley

7.30pm for prompt 8.00pm start

6 Wines and supper included in the £15 ticket

We are organising another fund raising event and it will be a light hearted mixture of “Call my Bluff” and “Wine Tasting”.

There will be a ‘panel’ of three of us pretending to be wine experts.

Throughout the evening, each table will be given a 6 bottles of wine (one per 'round', in turn) but the label and shape of the bottle will be disguised. Each of the three panel members will describe the wine that you (and they) are tasting. One panel member will read the TRUE description of the wine and the other two will bluff by reading a description of a wine that is not on your table. Your team (table) has to guess which panel member is telling the truth!

There will be 6 different bottles of wine served in turn through the evening, 3 whites before the food (included in the ticket price) and then 3 red wines after. The winning team (table) will be the one which has guessed the highest number of wines, correctly!

Tickets will be sold by ‘tables’ with between 6 and 8 people (tickets) per table but if you cannot make up a party of 6, we will combine you with other groups of less than 6 members to make up a ‘whole’ table wherever possible.

Tickets are available from Barley Stores or via:-

bulletYvonne Lee, 5 Crossways, London Road Barley. (01763) 848 463
bulletor Jill Emerson, Creeve, The Mount, Barley (01763) 848 444
